Call for Community Artists: North York Pop-up Food Bank Mural

Are you a mural artist with ties to the Jane and Finch community? North York Harvest Food Bank and Society for the Living are seeking a local artist to animate their pop-up food bank with a painted mural!

STEPS Public Art, alongside North York Harvest Food Bank and Society for the Living, are thrilled to announce a unique public art mural opportunity to animate four exterior walls of a pop-up food bank, a refurbished 8’ x 20’ x 8’ shipping container, at Toronto Public Library’s Jane/Sheppard Branch. 

The selected artist will work alongside project partners and their clients to bring together ideas and imagery around food, city life, local community, and Afrocentric representation in the design and production of this mural project.

PROJECT DETAILS

CLIENT: North York Harvest Food Bank and Society for the Living, and STEPS Public Art (Project Manager)

LOCATION: Toronto Public Library – Jane/Sheppard Branch, 1906 Sheppard Ave W, North York, ON M3L 1Y7

ARTIST FEE: $4000

PRODUCTION TIMELINE: Mural production will take place in Spring 2022. The dates are to be confirmed with the selected artist.

ARTIST QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Connected to the Jane and Finch community
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of mural production experience using exterior paint and aerosols, and Working from Heights training.
