About This Project
About The Winsome Capital and Gentle Waters Murals
The Winsome Capital interior mural by New Brunswick-based Connie Wheaton is inspired by Fredericton’s cityscape in hopes that the local community would resonate strongly with the theme. The artwork is an ode to the city’s beautifully preserved historical buildings and streets that tell fantastic stories of the city’s past.
Gentle Waters is a mural inspired by the Wolastoq River, also known as the Saint John River, one of the most dramatic and defining features of Fredericton. Characterized by the historical Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge and Princess Margaret Bridge, which connects the North and South sides, and its beautiful trails and boat docks, this mural is a maritime delight.
About the Artist
Connie Wheaton
Lead Artist
Connie Wheaton is a Fredericton, New Brunswick based artist, formally from Shelburne, Ontario. Connie is the owner of House of Art Studio on 334 York Street in Fredericton. She is a mother of 4 children and works as a full time artist. After 18 years of teaching preschoolers, owning a Montessori School and independently teaching children art classes, Connie decided to paint full time.
Connie is known for her work with bold, bright colours with florals, trees, and birds. Her love of abstract art is visible in her work. She also works extensively with watercolours and has spent a lot of her time sketching and painting local buildings and attractions, which she sells in local stores.
Partners
These works of art were made possible by BMO in collaboration with STEPS Public Art. BMO’s National Mural Series was designed to create opportunities to celebrate local communities and the people who live and visit them. By working with hyper local artists to design murals with meaning and impact specific to each location, BMO hopes to bring art to locations where artists and community members might not otherwise have an opportunity.
At BMO, we are proud to be partners in these communities, celebrate our customers, and support local artists. These beautiful pieces of art not only express BMO’s values and celebrate diversity they also provide opportunities to surprise and delight those visiting our branches. We look forward to expanding this program and curating many more murals in branches across Canada.
