Colourful Paths by Yasaman Mehrsa is inspired by everyday life in the St. James Town area, with symbols and motifs to depict the interests and activities of the lively community. Artist Statement for Colourful Paths
This design is a narrative of people’s everyday life in the St. James Town area. The different shoes symbolically represent individuals of any age, gender, and background living life in the community. The shoes are paired with elements of nature, animals, hobbies, foods, and much more to depict people’s activities and interests in the community.
The colourfulness of the design focuses on the vibrancy and diversity of the area. The background is a combination of colours, shapes, and motifs from different cultures abstractly representing pathways to show the impression of walking in the neighbourhood.
The paths, the shoes, and the elements altogether reflect the liveliness and joy in this distinctive area.
