ARTIST INFORMATION
Gosia Komorski is a Polish-Canadian artist with a passion for visual storytelling. Whether developing designs for public walls or creating smaller pieces in the studio, Komorski is inspired by ornate symbols and patterns of identity. Through mixing patterns and using bold complementary colours, she builds a visual language that is inclusive and relatable. Since her first public mural in 2015, Komorski has had the opportunity to paint on numerous traffic boxes, concrete barriers, walls, garage doors and garbage bins for StreetARToronto, Bell Box Murals Project, Womxn Paint, The City of Oshawa and Arts Etobicoke, to name a few. Currently exploring a new series, Komorski is visually retelling life stories of inspiring women through patterns of their past, present and future.
Komorski’s work reflects her personal search for stability, humanity and awareness. Her mixed media collages and murals are a balance of intricate patterns, bold shapes, fluid lines and vibrant colours. Komorski uses acrylics, latex, gold leaf, wood, canvas paper, found objects as well as aerosol in her pieces. She feels using a mix of materials gives her the freedom to experiment with colours and textures in order to convey a story. Komorski designs patterns to create the identity of a person or place, visually unveiling their biography or history.
