Chris Perez is a Canadian-based artist who works with abstract imagery in the exploration of cultural and personal identity. He graduated from the Drawing and Painting program from OCADU in 2012. After graduation, he worked a short stretch with a gallery and artist collective. Perez involves himself in many community arts projects and festivals. Working mainly as a painter, he has expanded his process and medium to involve large-scale murals, and more recently touched on site-specific work.

Perez’s artwork revolves around the notion of personal and cultural identity. Using expressive mark-making and organic forms, his mixed-media paintings converge contemporary, nostalgic, aesthetic influences, and cultural themes. Throughout Perez’s practice, he involves his artwork with local communities and creates pieces that are influenced by their surroundings. The work that comes forth is an expressive piece that builds from personal experiences and organic suggestions in the active space.
