Alison Postma is an award-winning Toronto-based photographer who graduated from the University of Guelph’s undergraduate studio art program in 2016.
Postma's work has focused on themes of perception in dreams and ideas of the future from the past. Most recently, Postma’s practice has focused on physically familiarizing herself with objects of her inspiration. In a studio setting, objects are examined and arranged with other objects in still-life to be photographed, paying close attention to texture and colour. In video work, Postma performs a series of gestures alongside objects, an ephemeral moment used to interact with the inanimate. In sculptural pieces, found objects are added to or modified to create something almost recognizable. Postma's practice is always informed by the mundane and day-to-day, usually by materials encountered and stories overheard.
