ARTIST INFORMATION
Jenn Kitagawa is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Toronto, Canada. She graduated with a Bachelor of Design from Alberta College of Art & Design (ACAD) and shortly thereafter moved to New York to intern for Nylon Magazine and the artist/illustrator Mike Perry. Currently, she is a full-time freelance artist and has created work for clients ranging from Facebook to Breast Cancer Canada. Recently, Jenn had the honour of creating the album artwork for Gord Downie’s record Introduce Yerself.
Kitagawa's work experiments with different mediums, techniques and materials, to create a diverse body of work that generates excitement in the viewer. Kitagawa enjoys pushing the boundaries between art and design, blurring the lines between tangible and intangible goods. She desires to inject positivity and joy and inspire curiosity and fun. Kitagawa works in bright colour palettes, creating patterns and images inspired by everyday objects, the female form and nature.
Kitagawa's creative process begins with researching keys words and reading about the subject matter. She then sketches out ideas, scans them onto her computer and experiments with colour, scale and repetition. She enjoys working in many mediums from wrapping paper, textiles to painting.
