ARTIST INFORMATION
Marina is a Russian-Canadian visual artist based in Toronto, ON. She holds a BFA in Painting from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Vancouver, BC. In her figurative paintings, she mainly uses oil and acrylic on canvas and wood. In the last several years she has been taking her work outside of the studio walls with a focus on murals and public art. Marina completed a number of indoor and outdoor murals among them OTB and Bell Box Murals projects. In addition, she has been collaborating with local art schools to work on installations for public schools.
The majority of Marina's work revolves around people and spaces, as she investigates themes of personal identity, human behaviour, duality and shifting perceptions. In her paintings, she draws her inspiration from everyday life and memories. In Marina's creative process, she experiments with photographs that she takes as well as images from found sources. She tends to explore familiar imagery, suggesting a subtle transition from one narrative to another.
