ARTIST INFORMATION
Artist Maxwell N. Burnstein preserves traditional analog techniques through his practice as a collage artist. The collages are made with printed photography, an x-acto knife, tape, glue and are then scanned for dimensional applications. Burnstein’s homegrown Canadian successes have led to an elevated status overseas. He has achieved this through the development of commissioned installations in various locations around the world and collaborations with leading fashion houses from Gucci to Fendi. Burnstein also has a passion for climate change advocacy, engaging in positive conversations about the environment through his collages. The artworks make it easy to educate viewers and create conversations about the world around us.
Burnstein’s artworks visualize his own generation’s concerns over climate change. The disconnect between policy and action makes it hard to understand the magnitude of what is happening. His artworks represent the climate crisis in a beautiful but contemplative way, inviting the viewer to reflect on their role as a human being and also a part of the earth itself. The distorted landscapes created with an x-acto knife ultimately help us imagine what meteorologists describe.
