ARTIST INFORMATION
Stephanie Boutari is an artist and muralist with a background in architecture and interior design. She started painting murals while studying architecture at the University of Waterloo.
After graduating from her master's program in 2014, Stephanie worked full-time as a designer at an architectural design & fabrication studio in Toronto for two years while pursuing mural work independently. In 2017, she shifted to freelance work to pursue her passion for art full-time. She has also partnered with BOKO, a design-build studio and workshop based in New Hamburg.
Stephanie’s work strives to bridge the gaps between art, architecture and design. Rather than seeing them as separate disciplines, they often inform and influence each other in her creative process. She is particularly fascinated by the ability of paint to three-dimensionally transform how architecture is experienced and perceived.
Stephanie has explored a variety of styles and techniques in her work, although she often comes back to geometric abstraction and the idea of creating illusory depth and dimension through painting. Concepts of optical art, colour relativity, pattern and immersive environments continue to inspire her work.
