ARTIST INFORMATION

Sue Todd is an award-winning illustrator based in Toronto and an associate of OCADU. Todd has created art for clients all over North America and the UK. Her illustrations have appeared in many books and magazines, on posters, T-shirts, a TV commercial, games and a bus. Her technique is linocut with digital colour, allowing her to enjoy the best of two worlds, both digital and hand-crafted. Todd’s recent picture books include The Incredible Adventures of Mary Jane Mosquito by Tomson Highway for Fitzhenry and Whiteside, An African Alphabet and The Wild Beast by Eric Walters for Orca Book Publishers. Todd is presently working on illustrations for another board book for Orca as well as writing and illustrating her own stories.

Todd’s love of medieval woodcut art complements her passion for folktales, and she has been fortunate to be commissioned to illustrate stories from all over the world. The research of Joseph Campbell highlights the similarities in foundational myths and legends worldwide. Todd believes the stories we tell to explain the inexplicable have the potential to connect and unite all peoples on the planet. As an illustrator, Todd finds it a great pleasure to be able to facilitate this understanding in some small way. Her bright colours and bold linework have attracted many commissions from educational, religious and spiritual publishers.
