What is Happening?
The City of Brampton is in the process of renaming two local parkettes and seeks to commission new public artwork from Indigenous artists or artist teams. This new artwork should respond to the natural environment of the space and also connect to the meanings of the new parkette names. Examples of activations include landscaping elements and/or functional artwork or park infrastructure elements.
Three (3) artists or artist teams have been shortlisted and have created detailed proposals. Now is your chance to let us know which one resonates most with you, and why! Fill out the short forms below for each artist and let us know!
How To Get Involved
Below you will find three (3) Google Forms, one for each artist, showcasing their proposed artwork, along with a detailed description. Have a look through each form and let us know what resonates most with you!
How We Will Use Your Input
Your feedback will be shared with the City of Brampton and will aid in their selection of the final commissioned artist or artist team. The project will also incorporate a mentorship component by involving a local emerging artist who can assume the role of assistant to the selected artist or artist team in the fabrication and installation of the artwork (this mentee will be paid by the City of Brampton and not come out of the selected artists or artist team’s budget).
What We Are Looking to Learn
We want to learn which artwork resonates most with you, and why!
- Would you be excited to see this artwork?
- Do you think the artwork aligns with the programming to create community, a place to gather, to connect and provide exposure to knowledge and creativity?
- How does the proposed artwork make you feel?
About The Project
STEPS Public Art and Brampton have shortlisted three (3) artists or artist teams who will each be paid an honorarium of $1,000 CAD (inclusive of taxes) to develop proposals to activate both parks. The City of Brampton has a budget of $40,000 CAD (inclusive of all costs associated with the project, including materials, labour, fees, taxes, travel, etc.) to be awarded to the selected artist or artist team to activate both parkettes.
The timeline would see shortlisted artists and artist teams create proposals due in late Fall of 2025. Community feedback sessions will also take place this Fall after submissions are received. The selected artist or artist team will be notified in early 2026 with fabrication and installation to take place early Spring 2026.
