Mo(ve)ment – Get Moving in Mississauga!
STEPS and the City of Mississauga facilitated a series of community arts-based workshops and activities across three Mississauga Cultural Districts. These fun and family-friendly activities were led by local artists and collaborators to bring you closer to each other and the Mississauga community.

About the Artists/Facilitators
Nicole Faye
Musician
Dividing her time between stage and studio, Nicole is an in-demand performer and vocalist appearing with the best of the best live corporate ensembles in the GTA. She is most recognized as one of the official Toronto Blue Jays and Raptors Anthem Singers and recently joined United Artists 4 Change releasing “Freedom Marching,” a song and call to action addressing anti-black racism.
Joanne Feely DeGraff
Artist
Joanne Feely DeGraaf is a visual artist and visual arts teacher who finds boundless inspiration in nature. Her favourite subjects and themes explore humanity’s connection to the environment, often magnifying flora and fauna. By taking organic forms from a micro to macro scale these artworks accentuate the significance of our natural world and celebrate its intricacy and beauty.
Moises Frank
Artist
Moises Frank, also known as Luvs, is a Toronto based creative. His roots in hip-hop have guided him to study graffiti and fine arts in back alleys, abandoned buildings, on trains and in books. He has had the privilege of traveling to paint murals and teach art abroad, in places including Colombia, New York, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Florida, Baltimore, Alberta, Ottawa, Montreal, Windsor and across the GTA.
Lisa Shen
Poet
Lisa Shen is the Youth Poet Laureate of the City of Mississauga. She was a Speaker at TEDx McMasterU, and recently placed second in the country at the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam. She is the Director of Sauga Poetry, Mississauga’s hub for spoken word events.

Jane Hayes
Facilitator
Jane is a gardener, permaculture designer, and community developer. She founded Garden Jane and co-founded Hoffmann Hayes to help people grow and connect to healthy food, gardens, and each other. Jane invites people in with storytelling, art, play, and hands-on activities, and shares what science and pattern-based observation have to offer.
Leah Yeram Kwak
Artist
Leah Yeram Kwak (they/she) is an illustrator who is constantly inspired by the bold mark-making of lines and shapes made by playing with brushes. Using play and scribbles as the starting point, they focus on using digital media to express immediate emotions and using a variety of shapes to celebrate and accentuate the vast experiences of diverse communities.

Samuel Liu
Facilitator
Samuel Liu is the Founding Facilitator of DRUMIN.CA and Studio Director of Perfect Harmony Music Studio. His passion lies in building community through music and drum circle facilitation. Trained by world-recognized percussionist Arthur Hull, widely known as “The Father of Modern Drum Circle,” Sam designs engaging drumming activities for wellness and team building.
Richard Collins, Heritage Mississauga
Facilitator
The key to preserving history is to celebrate those elements of the past that are important to us. Richard likes to complete these pictures of the past through community walking tours, multimedia presentations and live, interactive historic reenactments.
Lauren D'Ambrosio
Artist
Lauren D’Ambrosio (she/her) is an emerging artist based in Vaughan, Ontario. Through a combination of textiles and painting, her practice explores food and memory in relation to her lived experiences. Her work addresses themes of connection, kinship and comfort. Lauren also works as an arts educator and instructor.
Alexis Venerus
Artist
Alexis is a seamstress, working with local creatives, and designers. Her creative practise comes in the form of bringing others ideas into reality. She can eyeball fractions of an inch, and is working on centimeters.
